Not edited video for a number of years, well a lot, so bit of a learning curve to say the least. So I'll be asking plenty of questions, some of them will probably be a bit stupid.

I'll just be creating projects for my own use.

Also very much into photography, mainly birds.

Wow, when you first dive into DVR, it almost seems like an uphill battle. If you take things step by step along the way, you will not only learn great ways to improve your creative process but also new things that were beyond what you could imagine. I'm still in a growing phase myself, and everyone works differently. Because I dive into Fusion a lot, I've found that separating each piece of a stream into its own timeline is a fantastic time-saver for me.

My workflow is something like this:
1) I create a rough draft of the timeline.
2) Intro is its own timeline (so I can save and reuse it in other projects). Then I continue to separate timelines as extensions that continue the narrative of my original rough draft.

By making separations in the timeline, I can go into any of the areas I created, edit the video or transitions, and make changes as my heart desires. The final product is: Timeline 1, Timeline 2, etc.

As far as I can remember from Camtasia, Cap-Cut, etc., you get the picture. Davinci Resolve is by far the greatest. I didn't forget to mention that it is a little confusing when you first launch it, did I? Stick with it for at least a week of trial and error, because there will be some of that. Eventually, you will find it to be the cream of the crop in the number of features it offers, even in the FREE version.
