GoPro Decode Problems

Hi Everyone, Happy to join the forum and hoping for some help. I'm pretty new to DaVinci Resolve but have successfully made a few short videos. I'm now working on one combining jpgs and video clips from my gopro 13. The jpgs are working but not the gopro. I'm continually shown "media offline" and the videos don't play. (Windows Media player plays them fine). These clips don't even play in the source viewer before they're put in a timeline. I'm currently using Resolve 20.3.3 Build 10, installed May 25. The only vid I'm made since installing this version was with DJI MOV files and they work fine then and now. Looking at a debug.txt I'm seeing " ERROR 3rd Party decode ERR (failure to decode the video frame)" and " Error: Failed to decode clip --- and then the clip name, for each gopro clip in the project. My basic info is Windows 11, NVIDIA GTX 1080, Studio driver 581.57. I have no idea what to do next. Help!

Hi,
I had the same problem using Davinci Resolve free, the problem is that Davinci resolve free does not use its own decoder for HEVC, but used the OS HEVC decoder (microsoft).
It looks like a recent push of a new version of the Microsoft HEVC video extension causes the problem.
Download and install:
Microsoft.HEVCVideoExtension_2.5.10.0_neutral
you can download it from free-codecs.com/
That is then OEM version 2.5.10 (I think 2.5.25 causes the problem), it will probably tell you you are installing an older version, approve.
This should fix your problem until the next push of the new extension, then you can do it again...
That is until a new version of Resolve free or MS HEVC will be available and fix the problem :)
