Frustrating mouse issue

Greetings all,

Help | Beginner

when i left click and drag the mouse to box in several clips (in the editor) the box goes away instantly when i lift my finger off the mouse. i can't figure out how to get the gray box to stay.?!! any ideas on what i may be doing wrong? a setting in resolve or something... i understand this sounds simple and it probably is but i am stuck until i find the solution. thanks for any help, a link to video anything...

Could you take a screencapture of what's happening? Or at least describe in more detail?

the upshot is i do not see that this 'bounding' gray box does anything? like i said i can left click and hold and drag and get a box around multiple clips but to what end? when i lift my finger off the left mouse key the box goes away?! it doesn't do anything. what i need is a vid of how this feature works. thanks for your input oldschool
