Hello everyone,
I’m having trouble with choppy playback when editing in DaVinci Resolve Studio and I’m hoping someone here can help me out. Despite following various tips and adjusting settings, I still can’t get smooth playback, I can only reach 18/20 fps. Here’s a breakdown of my issue and the steps I’ve taken so far:
My PC Specifications:

I’m not sure what else to try at this point. Could it be an issue with my hardware, or is there something in the software settings I might have missed? Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated!

- CPU: Intel® Core ™ i9-10900KF CPU @3.70Ghz
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070
- RAM: 64GB
- Storage:
- SSD for cache
- SSD for project files
- SSD for footage
- OS: [Window 10]
Steps I've Already Taken:
- Using SSDs for Different Purposes:
- Cache, project files, and footage are all on separate SSDs to optimize performance.
- Creating Proxies: I’ve created proxy files to reduce the load on the system.
- Adjusting Playback Settings:
- Reduced playback resolution (Timeline proxy resolution to quarter)
- Tried various playback settings to find the optimal configuration.
- Use Proxy and Effects Disable
- Using a 1080 timeline with 4k footage
- Other Tips Tried:
- Render cache set to Smart.
- Details on the Issue when I play with proxy and effects disable:
- The playback is still choppy and not smooth, I only get 18 to 20 fps out of 25fps.
- When playing the timeline, the Task management - Performance says:
- CPU usage 40% (max)
- GPU 25%
- Memory 17Gb ( out of 64 Gb), despite in DaVinci Resolve preference the limit is set to max, 47GB
I’m not sure what else to try at this point. Could it be an issue with my hardware, or is there something in the software settings I might have missed? Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated!
